Laura Teniz, 57, Killed in Crash on Highland Avenue [San Bernardino, CA]

San Bernardino, CA — Laura Teniz, 57, was killed and another person suffered minor injuries following a fiery multi-vehicle crash on Highland Avenue Wednesday morning.

The San Bernardino Police Department said the incident unfolded around 7:15 a.m. near Highland and Mountain View avenues. Employees at a nearby ARCO gas station had reported a man behaving erratically before slumping over the steering wheel of a Volvo. As officers responded, they spotted a vehicle matching that description traveling in the opposite direction at an estimated speed of 80 miles per hour.

Officers turned around to follow the Volvo but soon encountered multiple vehicles engulfed in flames on Highland Avenue, east of Del Rosa Avenue. Investigators said the crash involved four vehicles, three of which caught fire after impact.

Witnesses reported that the Volvo struck another vehicle that was making a left turn at the intersection, triggering a violent collision and fire. Emergency crews later confirmed that two people, including the Volvo driver, died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released their identities. Later reports revealed that a high-speed chase caused the crash, when a man (the Volvo driver) was evading police and crashed into Laura Teniz’s car at 90 mph.

Another individual involved in the crash received treatment for minor injuries.
