Truck Driver Charged After Fatal Crash Kills Garland Woman in Mesquite

Mesquite, TX (September 7, 2026) — Khasan Begbaev faces a manslaughter charge after a deadly crash on Interstate 30 killed Lisa Maldonado early Friday morning.

Mesquite police responded to the crash around 3:16 a.m. on Sept. 4 at the transition ramp from westbound I-30 to northbound Interstate 635.

Authorities identified the victim as 33-year-old Lisa Maldonado of Garland. Emergency crews took Maldonado to a nearby hospital, where doctors later pronounced her dead from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators said Maldonado was driving a Chevrolet Equinox when the SUV collided with a Freightliner semi-truck pulling a 53-foot trailer. Police identified the truck driver as 39-year-old Khasan Begbaev of Brooklyn, New York.

Begbaev remained at the crash site and was taken into custody when officers arrived. He did not suffer injuries in the collision. Police later charged him with one count of manslaughter.

The Mesquite Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
