Lonnie Xaymongkhune Dead in Fritch Highway Accident [Amarillo, TX]

Amarillo, TX (August 14, 2026) – A Toyota Tundra driver, 69-year-old Lonnie Xaymongkhune, was killed in a Fritch Highway accident Thursday afternoon.

Investigators said it was past 3 p.m. when the pickup driven by Xaymongkhune was traveling south on the freeway when a large piece of concrete fell from a semi also traveling in the area.

The concrete fell through the windshield of Xaymongkhune’s vehicle and struck him on the head.

Afterward, the vehicle then left the road and drove to the field.

Responders declared Xaymongkhune deceased in the driver’s seat, while his wife sitting in the passenger seat was not hurt.

The authorities are looking for the semi involved in the fatal accident.

Troopers are asking anyone who may have details to call the Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit or Amarillo Crime Stoppers at (806) 374-4400.
