Lorenzo Guajardo Dies in Tragic 2-Vehicle Crash on FM 1421 [San Benito, TX]

San Benito, TX (April 21, 2025) – 70-year-old Lorenzo Guajardo tragically lost his life after a violent 2-vehicle crash on FM 1421.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the fatal incident happened on FM 1421 and Road 233.

Reports say that on April 19 at noon, a fatal two-vehicle collision occurred in San Benito, Texas.

Authorities say that Guajardo was driving a blue Chevrolet Aveo southbound on FM 1421 and attempted to turn left onto Road 233.

Behind him, 39-year-old Luis Fernando Gonzalez Altamirano drove a red Kenworth semi-truck and failed to control his speed, crashing into the Aveo.

Investigators determined that Altamirano was texting while driving at the time of the crash. Emergency crews transported Guajardo to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities arrested Altamirano and charged him with criminally negligent homicide. He remains in custody at the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center awaiting arraignment. The investigation is ongoing.
