Lucia Villa Killed in DUI Crash on Montana Avenue [El Paso, TX]

Gerard Anthony Nelson Jr., 29, Arrested for Deadly El Paso Auto Accident, Lucia Villa Killed

EL PASO, TX (December 7, 2025) – Saturday afternoon, a DUI crash on Montana Avenue near Desert Meadows left Lucia Villa, 60, dead.

The fatal accident involving two vehicles happened at around 3:45 p.m. on Montana Avenue near Desert Meadows.

One person was airlifted, and another was taken by ambulance in serious condition, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Two more people were taken to the hospital, though their conditions weren’t immediately known.

EPFD said its FireSTAR helicopter transported one of the patients, while another was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. El Paso Fire is assisting the Montana Vista Fire Department at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic Investigations Unit is now handling the case. Montana Avenue is closed in both directions and is expected to remain shut down for about six hours. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Later reports reveal that Gerard Anthony Nelson Jr. ran a red light, which caused the El Paso accident. He has since been arrested for DUI (intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle) and two counts of intoxication assault.

A passenger, El Paso resident Lucia Villa, 60, died when she was ejected from the back seat of the vehicle Gerard crashed into. The Ford’s driver, Fernando Villa, and front passenger, Lazaro Villa, were both hospitalized in intensive care and are said to have undergone severe injuries.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
