Luis Daniel Pacheco Dies After Rear-End Crash on US 60 in Apache Junction

Apache Junction, AZ (December 26, 2024) – 19-year-old Luis Daniel Pacheco died in a rear-end crash on US 60.

A serious crash on Thursday evening near Apache Junction claimed the life of a driver and shut down a major freeway for hours. 

The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported that 19-year-old Luis Daniel Pacheco was driving east on US 60 near Meridian Road just before 6 p.m. when another driver rear-ended his vehicle. 

The collision caused Pacheco’s car to roll across the median, pass through the cable barrier, and stop in the westbound lanes.

Pacheco, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his car during the crash. Emergency responders transported him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. 

Authorities stated that impairment has not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the collision.

The crash forced the closure of both directions of the freeway at Ironwood Drive for several hours.

Crews reopened the roadway fully around 10:20 p.m.
