Luis Gerardo Velazquez Arrested in Horrific Crash on I-35 [Laredo, TX]

Laredo, TX (December 27, 2025) — On Wednesday, a high-speed chase on I-35 in Laredo ended in a crash, injuries, and multiple arrests, including the driver, Luis Gerardo Velazquez.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers tried to stop a Volkswagen Atlas on I-35, but Velazquez sped away, triggering a pursuit. The chase ended when the vehicle collided with another car and several parked vehicles.

Velazquez and his two passengers fled on foot but were later apprehended. Velazquez faces charges of smuggling of persons, while the two passengers, migrants from Mexico, were charged with evading arrest. All three were booked into the Webb County Jail.

Four people in the vehicle that was struck were injured and transported to a hospital for treatment.
