Hemet Man Lyle Schmidt Dead in Sandrail Crash on Stoddard Wells Road [Apple Valley, CA]

Apple Valley, CA (March 22, 2026) – Lyle Schmidt, 59, of Hemet, was killed in a sandrail crash on Stoddard Wells Road Friday evening.

It was past 6 p.m. on March 20 when the fatal crash happened at the intersection with Ranch X Road.

A person reported to the authorities that that he was looking for his missing friend and learned that he was in a crash involving an offroad vehicle in a remote unincorporated county.

Rescuers rushed to the scene and declared Lyle Schmidt, dead.
