75-Year-Old Woman Dies After Crash on East SH 71 in Austin

Austin, TX (August 20, 2025) – 75-year-old Lynda Pierson hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision in East Austin earlier this month has died, marking the city’s 64th fatal crash of 2025.

Police said the crash happened around 3:09 p.m. on August 12 at the intersection of East State Highway 71 service road westbound and South FM 973 Road, near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

The victim, identified as Lynda R. Pierson, was transported to a local hospital where she remained in critical condition. Despite medical treatment, she died on August 16 at 9:55 p.m.

Authorities confirmed the other driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The cause of the crash is still under review.
