Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Loop 250 in Midland

Midland, TX (May 16, 2025) – A male motorcyclist died Thursday night after losing control of his bike in a crash on Loop 250 in Midland, according to city officials. 

Initially, the Midland Fire Department reported two fatalities at the scene, but the city later corrected the information, confirming that only one person died in the crash.

At 8:02 p.m., Midland Police and Fire crews responded to the fatal accident in the 5300 block of West Loop 250 North. 

According to witnesses, the motorcyclist was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson Sportster eastbound at a high speed.

Midland Police reported that the rider attempted to pass between two vehicles by lane-splitting but lost control during the maneuver. 

He crashed into a guardrail at the start of a curve.

Officials identified the victim as 38-year-old John Joseph Villalobos of Lubbock. The crash ejected him from the motorcycle, and he died at the scene. 

Authorities have notified his next of kin, and the investigation remains ongoing.
