Man Arrested after Crippling DUI Crash on San Juan Road

Injuries Reported in Monterey County Auto Accident on San Juan Road

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (May 6, 2026) – Sunday afternoon, a 20-year-old Watsonville man was arrested after a crippling DUI crash on San Juan Road.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 4:07 p.m. when a 20-year-old man from Watsonville was driving west in an Audi sedan and crossed into the eastbound lane.

Investigators said a 53-year-old woman from Pasadena, also driving an Audi eastbound, tried to swerve to avoid him but was sideswiped. A Toyota SUV traveling behind her, driven by a 17-year-old girl from Freedom with a 14-year-old passenger from Watsonville, was then struck head-on by the westbound Audi between Carpenteria and Tarpy roads.

Authorities said the Watsonville driver suffered minor injuries, while the Pasadena woman was not hurt. The two teens in the Toyota sustained major injuries.

CHP said the 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into Monterey County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.
