Police Investigate Fatal Crash on the Northwest Freeway in Houston

HOUSTON, TX (August 13, 2026)— A 35-year-old man died after a rollover crash on the Northwest Freeway late Wednesday night, according to the Houston Police Department.

The fatal collision happened at approximately 9:40 p.m. on August 12 in the 14300 block of the Northwest Freeway, also known as U.S. Highway 290.

Investigators with the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division said the man was driving a black Cadillac SRX at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle.

The Cadillac struck a black Mazda SUV before hitting a curb and guardrail. The impact caused the Cadillac to roll over multiple times.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the Cadillac driver dead.

Authorities had not publicly released his identity as of the report, pending notification of his family by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The driver of the Mazda and two passengers suffered minor injuries in the collision.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Barrow and Officer C. Brothers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Authorities have not released additional details about what may have contributed to the driver losing control.

The investigation remains ongoing.
