Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Mojave Drive in Victorville

Victorville, CA (January 22, 2026) – A tragic pedestrian crash on Mojave Drive claimed the life of a man in a wheelchair Thursday evening.

The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on January 22, 2026, along Mojave Drive just west of Village Drive near a Circle K gas station.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the man was crossing the roadway when a vehicle struck him.

Emergency crews arrived quickly and performed CPR at the scene before transporting the victim by ambulance.

Despite life-saving efforts, authorities confirmed that the man did not survive his injuries.

Witnesses described the victim as a white male believed to be in his 60s. Local residents identified him as a homeless individual known in the area as “old man James,” who was frequently seen near a dumpster behind the Economy Inn.

Officials stated that the man’s identity will be formally released at a later time.

Investigators described the vehicle involved as a black four-door sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry, with significant damage to the front passenger side.

The car came to rest in the eastbound lanes of Mojave Drive.

According to Sheriff’s Department officials, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.

Authorities indicated that drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors at this time.

Deputies closed Mojave Drive between Village Drive and Condor Road using crime scene tape while the investigation continued.

Victorville Public Works crews assisted with a full roadway closure. The investigation remains ongoing.
