50-Year-Old Stockton Man Injured in Fatal Crash on SR 198 [Fresno County, CA]

Fresno County, CA (August 30, 2026) — A 50-year-old Stockton man was hurt, and a 58-year-old Coalinga man died Thursday afternoon after a deadly crash on SR 198 in Fresno County.

The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. west of Parsons Road, west of Coalinga. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 eastbound at an estimated 70 to 75 mph when he attempted to pass two vehicles in the westbound lane.

The driver lost control, crossed both lanes, and traveled onto the south shoulder before striking the rear of a parked Ford F450. The Dodge Ram driver suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at Coalinga Regional Medical Center.

The 50-year-old Stockton man inside the parked truck also went to the hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

CHP investigators believe alcohol and/or drugs may have contributed to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
