Man Killed in Brutal Single-Vehicle Crash on C-470

1 Dead in Jefferson County Auto Accident on C-470 and Ken Caryl Avenue

JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO (May 5, 2026) – Tuesday morning, a man died in a brutal single-vehicle crash on C-470 and Ken Caryl Avenue.

The incident happened at around 9:19 a.m. on C-470 and Ken Caryl Avenue.

Troopers said a Toyota SUV was traveling west on C-470 over Ken Caryl Avenue when the driver veered off the left side, entered the median, and struck a guardrail.

The 31-year-old driver was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries. A 30-year-old woman in the SUV suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Authorities initially reported a toddler was hurt, but later clarified the 2-year-old boy was not injured. The occupants were reportedly traveling back to New Mexico at the time.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, westbound lanes were closed for several hours and reopened around 11:35 a.m.
