1 Dead in Merced County Pedestrian Accident on Highway 99 and Atwater-Merced Expressway

MERCED COUNTY, CA (August 3, 2025) – Friday morning, a devastating pedestrian crash on Highway 99 and Atwater-Merced Expressway killed 1 person.

The incident occurred at about 7:45 a.m. on Highway 99, south of the Atwater-Merced Expressway.

A man died after being struck by a car while crossing the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol. He was airlifted to a regional hospital but was later pronounced dead.

CHP said the driver was traveling at the speed limit and couldn’t avoid the collision because the man “suddenly jumped into the lane of traffic.”
