Police Search Driver After Hit-and-Run Crash on Airline Drive in Houston

HOUSTON, TX (June 25, 2026)— A Houston family is mourning after a hit-and-run driver struck and killed an elderly man in a crash on Airline Drive on Wednesday night in north Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, the crash happened at about 10:45 p.m. on Airline Drive near Buckboard Drive. 

Investigators said a man in his 70s was crossing the street with his wife after she finished work at a nearby restaurant.

Police said the woman was walking a few steps ahead when a northbound vehicle on Airline Drive hit her husband. The man suffered fatal injuries, and authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver did not stop to render aid and fled the area, police said.

Investigators noted that the couple was not crossing at a marked crosswalk or a major intersection when the crash occurred. 

Detectives are now searching for the vehicle involved. Based on evidence recovered at the scene, police believe the suspect vehicle may be a silver or white SUV or small pickup truck.

Authorities also said the vehicle may be missing its driver’s side mirror due to the collision.

Police urge anyone who sees a vehicle matching that description with recent damage to contact investigators. 

If officers locate the driver, that person could face serious criminal charges.
