CHP Investigates Fatal Crash on South Watt Avenue in Sacramento

Sacramento County, CA (April 17, 2025) – A man died in a head-on crash on South Watt Avenue.

A motorist succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital Thursday after his vehicle collided head-on with a dump truck in south Sacramento County, according to authorities.

Officials from the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office reported that around 6:40 a.m., the man—estimated to be about 40 years old—was driving north on South Watt Avenue between Florin and Elder Creek roads. 

While attempting to pass other vehicles, he encountered a southbound dump truck.

Both drivers tried to avoid the crash, but despite their efforts, the vehicles collided head-on.

Emergency responders transported the motorist to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. 

The driver of the dump truck was not injured in the collision.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office had not released the deceased driver’s name, pending notification of his family.
