1 Dead in Ventura County Auto Accident on Highway 101 and Ventura Road

VENTURA COUNTY, CA (February 2, 2026) – Saturday, a 39-year-old man died in a horrific car crash on Highway 101 and Ventura Road.

The crash also involved a 62-year-old woman from Santa Maria driving a 2023 Ford and a 37-year-old woman from El Monte driving a 2025 Mercedes.

CHP said a 39-year-old man was driving the wrong way in a 2012 Volkswagen when he collided with both vehicles. He died from major injuries suffered in the crash. The 62-year-old woman sustained minor injuries, while the 37-year-old woman was not injured.

Authorities said it is unclear why the man was driving the wrong way or if alcohol or drugs were factors. The crash closed the southbound lanes of the highway until 8:30 a.m. The investigation remains ongoing.
