Josue Guttierez Garcia Arrested in Kings County Auto Accident on Interstate 5 and Utica Avenue

KINGS COUNTY, CA (October 30, 2025) – Saturday night, a 21-year-old man died in a horrific DUI crash on Interstate 5 and Utica Avenue.

The incident happened at about 8:30 p.m. on Interstate 5 northbound, north of Utica Avenue.

CHP investigators identified the wrong-way driver as 21-year-old Josue Gutierrez Garcia of Hesperia, who was heading south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in a Chevrolet Suburban. At the time, a Bakersfield man was driving a Chevrolet Malibu, while a 51-year-old Pleasanton resident was behind the wheel of a Subaru Legacy.

According to investigators, Garcia’s Suburban struck the Malibu head-on before the front of the SUV sideswiped the Subaru. The Subaru driver escaped injury, but the Malibu driver suffered major injuries and later died.

Garcia sustained minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, the CHP said.
