1 Dead in Stockton Auto Accident on Highway 4

STOCKTON, CA (May 17, 2026) – Saturday afternoon, a man died in a horrific head-on crash on Highway 4.

The incident happened at about 12:17 p.m. when a Tesla Model X headed west on Highway 4.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Tesla driven by a 51-year-old man from Stockton was traveling with two juvenile passengers when it was involved in a crash with a Kia sedan.

Authorities said the Kia, driven by a 38-year-old Stockton man, was headed eastbound but entered the westbound lane. The Tesla driver swerved to avoid it, but the Kia then swerved back, and the two vehicles collided.

CHP said the Kia went airborne after impact and landed in a drainage ditch about 20 feet south of the highway. The driver was unconscious and had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead around 1:21 p.m.

The Tesla driver and two juvenile passengers suffered moderate injuries but declined medical treatment and left the scene with family members.
