Police Investigate Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 10 in Desert Center
DESERT CENTER, CA (May 22, 2026)— A 31-year-old man suffered major injuries Friday morning after two big rigs collided on Interstate 10 in Desert Center.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly before 5:20 a.m. on eastbound I-10, east of Corn Springs Road.
CHP said a big rig driven by a 63-year-old man was traveling about 50 mph when another big rig, reportedly traveling at 55 mph, rear-ended it.
The impact caused the cab of the second big rig to separate from its frame.
Emergency responders identified the injured driver as a 31-year-old man from Bell Gardens. A medical helicopter flew him to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with major injuries.
The other driver was not injured.
CHP said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash. Investigators listed fatigue involving the injured driver as a possible factor.
Eastbound lanes of I-10 were temporarily closed for several hours while crews responded, investigated the scene, and cleared the wreckage.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the collision.
Injured in a Big Rig Crash? Sweet Lawyers Can Help Protect Your Rights
A collision involving two big rigs can cause devastating injuries and major roadway disruption. Commercial truck crashes often involve powerful impacts, severe vehicle damage, emergency air transport, and long recovery periods.
When a driver suffers major injuries, the aftermath can quickly become overwhelming for the victim and their family.
At Sweet Lawyers, we understand how complex truck accident cases can be. A crash involving commercial vehicles may require an investigation into driver fatigue, hours of service, vehicle maintenance, speed, following distance, driver training, company policies, and trucking safety regulations.
Even when alcohol or drugs are not factors, fatigue can create serious risks on long routes and early morning drives.
Our team helps injured truck accident victims protect their rights and understand their legal options. We assist with reviewing CHP reports, gathering evidence, communicating with insurance companies, and identifying possible sources of compensation.
Important evidence may include driver logs, electronic data, maintenance records, company safety documents, witness statements, vehicle damage, medical records, dash camera footage, and crash reconstruction findings.
A serious truck crash may leave victims facing hospital bills, surgeries, rehabilitation, lost income, pain and suffering, and future care needs.
Insurance companies and commercial carriers may act quickly after a crash, but injured victims should not feel pressured into accepting a settlement before the full extent of their losses is known.
