76-Year-Old Man Dies After Hit-and-Run Crash on Loop 375 in El Paso
El Paso, TX (June 21, 2025) — 76-year-old Manuel Oliva Contreras died after suffering injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Loop 375 South near Pelicano in El Paso late on June 18.
According to police, the crash happened at approximately 11:30 p.m. when Contreras was driving southbound on Loop 375. Investigators said a dark-colored vehicle traveling at a high speed struck the rear of Contreras’s vehicle before the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
Contreras was initially believed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. However, he later died at a hospital as a result of injuries suffered in the collision.
The El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit is handling the case and continues to search for the driver involved. Authorities urge anyone with information about the crash or the suspect to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
Police said Contreras’ death marks the city’s 22nd traffic fatality of the year.
