Mapendo Olga and Jaredi Mpaweingabire Dies in Tragic Crash on US 87 [Hartley County, TX]

Hartley County, TX (December 26, 2024) On Wednesday morning, 28-year-old Mapendo Olga, 31-year-old Jaredi Mpaweingabire and 4 children died in a horrific crash on US Highway 87.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the deadly collision happened at about 12:30 a.m. on Highway 87.

Reports say that the devastating collision early Christmas morning in Hartley County claimed six lives, including four young children.

Authorities say that a 2018 Honda Pilot towing a small U-Haul trailer veered into oncoming traffic on US Highway 87, about seven miles east of Hartley, and collided with a box truck. The impact caused the SUV to catch fire.

DPS say that all six individuals in the Honda Pilot, including the driver and passengers, were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were identified as Mpaweingabire, Olga both of Cactus, and children from 2-6 years old.

Officials say that 36-year-old Tyler Morales of Amarillo, who was driving the box truck, survived the crash and was taken to Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities are investigating the deadly incident and have not released further details about the crash.
