Marcalina Santana and Maria Mendoza Hurt in Fatal Crash on State Route 26 [Othello, WA]

Othello, WA (April 13, 2025) – 42-year-olds Marcalina Santana and Maria Mendoza both from Wenatchee were hurt in a fatal crash on State Route 26.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the deadly crash happened around 12:26 p.m. on State Route 26 near milepost 32.

Reports say that the deadly crash occurred on Friday approximately eight miles west of Othello.

Authorities say that a 2006 Chevrolet Tilt truck traveling eastbound rear-ended a slower-moving Case IH Magnum 340 farm tractor, also headed east.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 34-year-old Edson Quintero De La Cruz of Wenatchee, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Two passengers in the Chevrolet — Santana and Mendoza — sustained injuries and were transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. Santana was reportedly wearing a seatbelt, while Mendoza was not.

The driver of the tractor, 50-year-old Alberto J. Leal of Othello, was unharmed.

WSP investigators determined the Chevrolet was following too closely, leading to the crash. It remains unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved.
