Merced Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Madera County

Madera County, CA (August 22, 2025) – Authorities identified 53-year-old Maria Iniguez of Merced as the victim of a deadly crash on Highway 233.

According to authorities, the fatal collision happened Monday morning around 8:40 a.m. at Highway 233 near Robertson Boulevard and Avenue 22.

Investigators said a 19-year-old man from Madera was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound when he reportedly fell asleep and drifted into the northbound lane, heading into the path of a BMW 320i driven by a 46-year-old Merced woman.

Both drivers attempted to swerve, but the Chevrolet struck the BMW’s passenger side, causing the truck to overturn. The BMW came to rest on the shoulder. Iniguez, who was riding in the front passenger seat of the BMW, died at the scene.

The BMW’s driver was taken to Madera Community Hospital with minor injuries, while the Chevrolet driver also sustained minor injuries. Authorities confirmed that alcohol and drugs did not contribute to the crash.
