Father and 3 Children Transported Following Deadly Crash on Galveston Island

Galveston Island, TX (January 25, 2025) – Maria “Lupe” Martinez was killed while her husband and three children were hurt in a DUI Crash on Harborside Drive late Monday afternoon.

The vehicle crash happened around 5:45 p.m. on 29th Street.

According to the investigators, a black BMW driven by 34-year-old Alexis Brittany Cisneros was driving was speeding and went into oncoming traffic. The BMW then struck a white Toyota Tacoma with a family of five inside.

Unfortunately, Maria “Lupe” Martinez was killed at the scene. Her husband and their three children, 10, 13, and 22 years old, were transported to the UTMB Galveston emergency room. Brittany, the oldest child, incurred a brain injury.

Meanwhile, the accident report stated Cisneros was unaware of the severity of the crash and asked EMS personnel if she could get in her vehicle and drive home. Officers said blood alcohol content was .08, more than the legal limit.

Isait Martinez, Martinez’s nephew, said the road to recovery for all the four family members is going to be long and arduous.

Cisneros was in a wheelchair when she appeared before a judge. She was released from the Galveston County Jail on a $150,000 bond.

The Martinez family was heading to the hospital where Brittany works. She was set to report for a long shift ahead of the freeze. Her family was driving her to drop her off when the collision happened.
