Maria Mendoza Dies in Suspected DUI Crash on I-182

Driver Arrested Following Pasco Deadly Vehicle Crash

Pasco, WA (February 8, 2026) – Maria Mendoza, 57, of Grandview, was killed in a suspected DUI crash on I-182 Friday evening.

It was before 8 p.m. when the deadly crash happened on the eastbound lanes of the highway, near the exit for SR 395 to Kennewick.

According to the authorities, Mendoza was eastbound on I-182 when she was struck by a westbound pickup truck driven by Pedro Ruiz, 18, of Othello.

WSP officers said Ruiz lost control of the vehicle and rolled over the cable barrier.

Ruiz then crashed onto Mendoza’s vehicle, and both vehicles rested on the eastbound lanes.

Responding officers declared Mendoza deceased at the scene.

Moreover, the medical team treated Ruiz for minor injuries before WSP officers arrested him.

Investigators determined that troopers were pursuing Ruiz for suspected DUI before the collision happened.
