Maria Rubalcava de Ruesga Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Shelton Street [Santa Ana, CA]

Santa Ana, CA (November 21, 2025) — 69-year-old Maria Rubalcava de Ruesga of Santa Ana died Wednesday morning after a trash truck hit her as she crossed a street near Shelton and Bishop streets.

Santa Ana police responded to several calls about the crash around 7:56 a.m. Paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority arrived shortly after and pronounced Rubalcava de Ruesga dead at the scene.

Detectives determined that the trash truck was traveling east on Bishop Street and began turning right onto South Shelton Street at a roundabout when it struck Rubalcava de Ruesga in the crosswalk. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
