Mark Anthony Perez Vargas Arrested in San Antonio High-Speed Crash [San Antonio, TX]

San Antonio, TX (May 13, 2025) – Authorities arrested 26-year-old Mark Anthony Perez Vargas following a high-speed chase and foot pursuit in San Antonio.

Authorities say that the incident began when a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper attempted to stop Vargas’s Mercury sedan for a traffic violation at North General McMullen Drive and Tulane Drive.

Officials say that Vargas refused to comply, prompting a pursuit that ended when he collided with a stopped Hyundai. Fortunately, no one in the Hyundai sustained injuries.

After the crash, Vargas fled on foot, but with assistance from the San Antonio Police Department, troopers apprehended him near Cincinnati Avenue and North General McMullen.

Officials charged Vargas with Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest, Possession of a Group 1 Controlled Substance, and Tampering with Evidence. A DPS Trooper suffered a leg injury during the pursuit and received medical treatment.
