Adelanto, CA (August 23, 2026) — A 60-year-old Apple Valley woman, Mary Handford, died Friday night after a vehicle struck her on Highway 395 in Adelanto.

The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. on August 21, south of Seneca Road. Responding emergency crews found a Ford Mustang stopped in the southbound lanes and Handford lying in the roadway. Authorities pronounced her dead at the scene.

The Mustang’s driver stayed at the location and cooperated with investigators. The vehicle sustained damage to the passenger-side windshield.

Authorities temporarily closed southbound Highway 395 at Seneca Road while they investigated the fatal collision. Officials have not released additional details about what led to the crash.
