Mattie Joy Gunther Involved in Fatal Crash on County Road 20

Motorcyclist Dead in Orland Rear-End Crash

Oakland, CA (March 23, 2026) – Mattie Joy Gunther, 19, of Orland, was involved in a deadly crash on County Road 20 Friday morning.

It was past 7 a.m. when the fatal crash happened east of Interstate 5.

Officers said Gunther was driving an eastbound Toyota sedan at 45 mph.

In front of Gunther’s vehicle, was a Kawasaki utility vehicle driven by a 53-year-old Orland woman was traveling in the same direction.

Troopers said the Toyota rear-ended the Kawasaki, throwing the driver off the motorcycle and killing her at the scene.

Gunther performed CPR until rescuers arrived.

Moreover, CHP said DUI was not a factor in the fatal crash.
