Mayrani Martinez Morales Injured in Fatal Collision on FM 866 [Odessa, TX]

Odessa, TX (January 14, 2025) — A deadly three-vehicle collision at the intersection of FM 866 and West University in Ector County left Mayrani Martinez Morales injured early Monday morning.

According to authorities, the crash happened around 6 a.m. when a northbound GMC Sierra collided with a southbound Peterbilt truck that was turning east onto West University.

Following the initial impact, the GMC struck a Ford F-150 that was stopped at the intersection.

Authorities identified the GMC’s driver as 27-year-old Jorge Zapata of Odessa. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his vehicle, 27-year-old Mayrani Martinez Morales of Odessa, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The Peterbilt’s driver was not hurt. The driver of the Ford F-150 sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment. All involved motorists were reportedly wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the incident.
