Driver Michael Anthony Smith Arrested in Santa Fe Avenue Deadly Crash [Stanislaus County, CA]

Stanislaus County, CA (March 24, 2026) – Michael Anthony Smith, 39, of Modesto, was arrested following a Santa Fe Avenue deadly crash Sunday morning.

The deadly solo-vehicle crash happened before 5 a.m., south of Claus Road.

Troopers said Smith was driving south on Santa Fe Avenue when his vehicle, a Honda sedan, went off the road and rolled several times.

Rescuers declared Smith’s rear left passenger, a female, dead at the scene, and rushed two other passengers to Memorial Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries.

Troopers said Smith was not injured, while his vehicle sustained major damage from the collision. 

No information was released wether the car occupants were wearing seatbelts during the collision.

Moreover, officers took Smith to Stanislaus County Public Safety Center after showing signs of being under the influence.
