Michael Fiscus Dies in Tragic Crash on I-80 [Auburn, CA]

Auburn, CA (May 31, 2025) — Authorities have identified 57-year-old Michael Fiscus as the man who died in a tragic crash on Interstate 80 near Colfax earlier this week.

The collision occurred on May 26 along westbound I-80 near Placer Hills Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a westbound big rig lost control and struck the center divider, causing its trailer to detach. The trailer then crossed into other lanes, where Fiscus’ pickup truck collided with it.

Fiscus suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Investigators said the driver of the big rig left the scene following the collision. However, the truck’s owner and operator are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and is asking anyone with information to contact the Auburn Area CHP office.
