Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Highway 155 in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 12, 2026)— Authorities identified the motorcyclist who died after a crash on Highway 155 as 36-year-old Michael Hayden Mollenauer of Bodfish, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 1:05 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, on Highway 155 north of Keysville Road.

According to CHP, Mollenauer was riding a 2006 Honda 600 RX motorcycle northbound on Highway 155 at an unknown speed.

At the same time, a 39-year-old man was driving a 2014 Freightliner flatbed truck southbound on Highway 155 at about 45 to 50 mph.

Investigators said the motorcycle crossed over the solid double-yellow lines and entered the southbound lane as both vehicles approached each other. The Honda then collided with the left front side of the Freightliner.

The impact ejected Mollenauer from the motorcycle and threw him onto the roadway. The motorcycle also continued in a northeasterly direction before coming to rest on the highway.

Emergency responders transported Mollenauer to Kern Valley Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

CHP said investigators have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
