Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 70 in Sutter County Kills One, Injures Woman and Infant

Sutter County, CA (January 22, 2026) — A wrong-way collision on Highway 70 in Sutter County left 23-year-old Miguel Sigala-Flores of Willows and sent a woman and a baby to the hospital Tuesday evening.

According to authorities, the crash happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. near Striplin Road as fog reduced visibility in the area.

Authorities said a Toyota Corolla traveled northbound in the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a Volkswagen Tiguan. Investigators reported that a witness observed the Corolla make a U-turn before driving the wrong way, with video evidence supporting the account.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as Sigala-Flores, died at the scene. The woman driving the Volkswagen suffered major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. A 1-year-old child riding in the vehicle was also taken for treatment; officials have not confirmed whether the infant was properly restrained, and the extent of the child’s injuries remains unclear.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Highway 70 was temporarily closed while crews worked the scene.
