Police Investigate Crash on Lighthouse Road in Petrolia
PETROLIA, CA (February 19, 2026)— Two people suffered injuries early Thursday morning in a crash on Lighthouse Road after a Honda Odyssey minivan crashed into a tree along Lighthouse Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 3:19 a.m. in the 1500 block of Lighthouse Road. CHP logs indicate the vehicle sustained major front-end damage after leaving the roadway and striking a tree.
Petrolia Fire Chief Chris Gilda said firefighters responded to the reported motor vehicle accident but learned the injured occupants had walked to a nearby residence. Crews redirected their response and located two patients suffering from head wounds.
Due to the severity of the situation, first responders requested an air ambulance. However, weather conditions prevented the initial helicopter from flying.
Chief Gilda then contacted the U.S. Coast Guard, which accepted the request and airlifted one patient from Petrolia to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The second injured individual was transported by ground ambulance.
Emergency crews cleared the scene around 5 a.m. After completing the patient transfers, volunteers returned to the station to clean and restock equipment before becoming available for additional emergency calls.
Chief Gilda noted that a power outage occurred during the response, adding to the challenges faced by crews. The department’s aging backup generator had recently failed, forcing volunteers to complete their work without standard electrical support.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the extent of the patients’ injuries. Petrolia Fire, City Ambulance, the Coast Guard, and CHP all responded.
The investigation remains ongoing.
