Southern Humboldt, CA (July 3, 2025) – CHP responded to a solo vehicle crash on Horse Mountain Road with minor injuries.
Shortly after 5 p.m. this evening, a vehicle veered off Horse Mountain Road in Southern Humboldt and crashed into a tree, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.
A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer who reached the remote scene just after 6 p.m. confirmed that the crash resulted in minor to moderate injuries.
The collision occurred in a remote, forested area located several miles west of Ettersburg, near Kings Peak Road.
The CHP Traffic Incident Information Page reported that the crash alert initially came through an iPhone at 5:09 p.m., automatically notifying emergency services.
Authorities later determined that four people, including children, were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The person who reported the incident informed dispatch that the vehicle was stuck between trees and could not be seen from the roadway.
Fire crews and law enforcement teams were dispatched to locate the crash using GPS coordinates and updated location data.
At 6:05 p.m., a CHP officer arrived on scene and confirmed the nature of the injuries.
Emergency medical responders were en route to assist those involved.
As of 9:30 p.m., CHP updated the incident classification to a minor injury accident.
