1 Dead in Orange County Mobility Scooter Crash on Irvine Boulevard and Groveland

ORANGE COUNTY, CA (May 17, 2026) – Thursday night, an 87-year-old man died in a brutal mobility scooter accident on Irvine Boulevard and Groveland.

Life-saving efforts were performed by both the Orange County Fire Authority and the Irvine Police Department, but the unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the Tesla driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Preliminary findings indicate the Tesla was traveling westbound on Irvine Boulevard with a green light, while a man on a mobility scooter was crossing northbound in the crosswalk at Groveland when the collision occurred.

Investigators said DUI is not believed to be a factor. The Irvine Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the case.
