San Antonio, TX (June 30, 2026) — 17-year-old Moncerrat Martinez lost her life after an alleged street racing crash on Southwest Military Drive in San Antonio late Sunday night.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, the collision happened around 10:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Southwest Military Drive near Mango Avenue. Investigators said 19-year-old Vynzell Edward McGarity was driving a Dodge Charger eastbound at a high speed while allegedly racing another vehicle.

Police said McGarity changed lanes and struck the teenage pedestrian as she attempted to cross the roadway. The impact fatally injured the victim, who died at the scene. Her family later identified her as Martinez.

Authorities reported that McGarity continued driving for about two blocks before stopping. Officers initially detained three people who were inside the Charger for questioning before arresting McGarity. He now faces charges related to racing on a highway, causing serious bodily injury or death, as well as reckless driving.
