HOUSTON, TX (December 6, 2025) — A Buddhist monk who was severely injured during a “Walk for Peace” crash in Liberty County last month has undergone a leg amputation, according to a recent update from the movement’s organizers.

The monk, identified as Bhante Dam Phommasan, underwent successful surgery on Wednesday morning. According to a statement shared on the “Walk for Peace” Facebook page, he is now resting comfortably under medical supervision.

The devastating crash took place in November along eastbound Highway 90 near Tollway 99. Two monks were reportedly walking as part of the peace march, accompanied by a vehicle following closely behind.

Authorities say a second vehicle collided with the escort vehicle, which then struck the monks. Multiple people suffered injuries, though most were treated for minor wounds at the scene.

At this time, no information has been released regarding any charges or citations related to the incident. The case remains under investigation by local law enforcement.
