Good Samaritan Killed While Assisting Stranded Driver in Lubbock Crash

Lubbock, TX (December 24, 2025) — 43-year-old Morton Saenz died Monday night after being struck during a three-vehicle crash in central Lubbock while helping another driver on the roadside.

According to authorities, the collision happened just before 7 p.m. on Spur 327 near the West Loop Frontage Road.

Police said Saenz had stopped to assist a stranded motorist and was in the process of hitching the disabled vehicle to his pickup when another car crashed into him.

Emergency crews rushed Saenz to University Medical Center with critical injuries, but he later succumbed to those injuries. The stranded driver, identified as 29-year-old Collin Houghton, was not hurt.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
