DEL NORTE COUNTY, CA (September 25, 2024) – Monday night, a horrific motorcycle crash near Mouth of Smith River Road killed 1 person.

The incident happened at around 6:42 p.m. near Mouth of Smith River Road.

According to reports, a dirt bike collided with an unidentified vehicle, leading to a fiery crash. The motorcycle became fully engulfed in flames, prompting multiple emergency calls. Witnesses at the scene reported that the bike exploded, and one person was discovered lying in the roadway, presumed deceased. It remains unclear whether one or two riders were involved, based on the scanner traffic.

Both lanes of traffic were blocked, and Caltrans responded to redirect vehicles onto Oceanview Drive as emergency crews worked to secure the area. At approximately 7:07 p.m., authorities confirmed a fatality, and a coroner was dispatched to the scene. No additional victims were reported by emergency services.

An evidence tow was requested for both the burned motorcycle and a Jeep Wrangler with four intact tires.
