Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Highway 96 in Brookeland

BROOKELAND, TX (August 30, 2026)– A man died and a woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a motorcycle crash on Highway 96 in Brookeland Saturday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened at approximately 11:24 p.m. on Highway 96 near the Sheep Saloon.

According to DPS, a 37-year-old Pineland man was driving a motorcycle northbound on Highway 96 with a 37-year-old woman riding as a passenger.

Investigators said a pickup truck pulled out of a parking lot and failed to yield to the motorcycle.

The motorcycle then struck the left side of the pickup truck.

Emergency personnel pronounced the motorcycle operator dead at the scene.

Paramedics transported the female passenger to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released their identities.

DPS identified the pickup driver as 41-year-old Jesse Arceneaux of Beaumont. Authorities reported that he did not suffer injuries in the collision.

Investigators subsequently arrested Arceneaux and charged him with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. Authorities booked him into the Jasper County Jail.

The charges are allegations, and the legal process will determine the outcome of the case.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office reported that officials closed both northbound lanes of Highway 96 for approximately three hours while investigators worked at the scene.
