Police Investigate Motorcycle Crash on Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (August 20, 2026)— A motorcyclist was hospitalized early Thursday after a three-vehicle crash on Powers Boulevard that shut down the roadway in both directions for several hours, according to Colorado Springs police and the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The collision happened at approximately 4:30 a.m. on northbound Powers Boulevard between Constitution Avenue and Palmer Park Boulevard.

A member of the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team said the collision involved a motorcycle and two passenger vehicles.

According to police, the motorcycle initially collided with a car while traveling northbound on Powers Boulevard. The impact sent the motorcycle into the southbound lanes, where it struck a second vehicle.

The collision severely damaged the motorcycle and scattered debris across the roadway.

Emergency personnel transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities did not immediately provide additional information about the rider’s condition.

Police said the occupants of the two other vehicles suffered minor injuries. Officials did not disclose how many people were inside those vehicles.

The crash prompted officials to close Powers Boulevard in both directions from Constitution Avenue to Palmer Park Boulevard while investigators examined the scene and crews removed wreckage and debris.

The closure caused significant traffic congestion during the morning commute, with some motorists reportedly cutting through nearby parking lots to avoid the blocked roadway.

Crews cleared the scene by approximately 9 a.m., and Powers Boulevard reopened to traffic.

Police said speed and alcohol were factors in the collision, though authorities did not immediately specify which person or vehicle those factors involved.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Injured in a Colorado Springs Motorcycle Crash? Sweet Lawyers Can Help You Understand Your Options After a Serious Collision

A serious motorcycle crash can leave an injured rider and their family facing significant physical, emotional, and financial challenges without warning.

We hope the motorcyclist hospitalized after this Powers Boulevard collision receives the medical care and support needed for a strong recovery. We also hope those who sustained minor injuries heal quickly.

Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable in traffic collisions because they have far less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles.

A crash involving multiple impacts, such as a motorcycle being pushed into opposing traffic, can result in severe injuries and complicated questions about how the collision unfolded.

At Sweet Lawyers, we understand how overwhelming the aftermath of a motorcycle accident can be. Injured riders may face emergency treatment, hospitalization, rehabilitation, missed work, motorcycle repairs or replacement, and ongoing communication with insurance companies.

These challenges can be especially difficult while someone is still recovering physically and emotionally.

A thorough crash investigation may involve police reports, roadway evidence, vehicle damage, witness statements, surveillance or traffic-camera footage, toxicology results, and electronic vehicle information.

Investigators may also examine speed, visibility, roadway conditions, and the movements of each vehicle immediately before impact.

Because police have identified speed and alcohol as factors in this collision without publicly specifying who those factors involved, conclusions about responsibility should wait until investigators complete their review.

Sweet Lawyers assists people affected by motorcycle and motor vehicle accidents with compassion, professionalism, and careful attention to each client’s circumstances.

Medical records, rehabilitation expenses, lost wages, transportation costs, and documentation of other accident-related losses may also help demonstrate how a serious crash has affected an injured person’s daily life.
