Police Investigate Crash on El Camino Real in Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, CA (August 20, 2026)— A motorcyclist died in a crash on El Camino Real Wednesday after colliding with a sedan in Palo Alto, according to authorities.

The Palo Alto Police Department said officers received a report of a major-injury crash at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the 100 block of El Camino Real.

Investigators said a man in his 20s was riding a motorcycle southbound on El Camino Real when he collided with a sedan that was making a left turn. The impact threw the motorcyclist from his bike.

The Palo Alto Fire Department transported the injured rider to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has not released the motorcyclist’s identity pending identification and notification of his family.

Authorities said the sedan driver, a woman in her 20s, remained at the crash scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police closed the roadway for approximately three hours while officers examined the scene and gathered evidence.

Authorities have not released additional information about what caused the collision or whether any citations or charges may result.

The Palo Alto Police Department continues to investigate the fatal motorcycle crash.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Palo Alto Police Department dispatch center at 650-329-2413.

Compassionate Support for Families After a Fatal Motorcycle Collision

The sudden death of a loved one in a motorcycle crash can leave a family facing profound grief, unanswered questions, and difficult decisions.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of the young motorcyclist who lost his life in this Palo Alto collision.

Losing someone unexpectedly can be especially overwhelming when a family is still waiting for investigators to determine exactly what happened.

Fatal motorcycle accidents often require a detailed investigation.

Authorities may examine vehicle movements, roadway conditions, traffic signals, sight distances, physical evidence, witness statements, surveillance footage, and other information before determining the circumstances surrounding a crash.

In this case, the Palo Alto Police Department has said the investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not announced a final determination regarding responsibility.

For families, the days and weeks after a fatal collision may involve more than emotional grief.

Loved ones may also need to manage funeral arrangements, insurance communications, medical expenses, accident reports, and other unexpected responsibilities. These practical concerns can become an additional burden during an already painful period.

At Sweet Lawyers, we understand that wrongful death matters involve deeply personal losses. Our team approaches families with compassion, dignity, and respect while providing clear information about available services and resources.

We recognize that every family’s circumstances are different, and we focus on listening carefully to concerns rather than assuming what happened or what a family should do next.

Motorcycle crashes can be particularly devastating because riders have far less protection than occupants of enclosed vehicles.

When a collision results in a fatality, families deserve the opportunity to understand the facts surrounding the incident and receive attentive support throughout the process.

If your family has lost a loved one in a motorcycle, car, pedestrian, or other roadway collision, you can learn more about Sweet Lawyers by visiting the Sweet Lawyers official website.
