Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Interstate 215 in San Bernardino

San Bernardino, CA (May 29, 2025) – A motorcyclist died in a crash on Interstate 215 on Thursday afternoon.

A fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle shut down all southbound lanes of the I-215 Freeway at Palm Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol reported the incident around 1:12 p.m. on May 29, 2025. 

A gray Ford SUV and a motorcycle collided, triggering a full freeway closure. 

Caltrans crews quickly began placing cones, and initial reports confirmed that both lanes were blocked.

By 1:14 p.m., the CHP log noted a severe impact, stating that the motorcycle rider was “smashed up against the CD” (center divider). 

Just minutes later, at 1:18 p.m., officials stopped all lanes and requested a hard closure to secure the area.

Authorities called in both a tow service for evidence collection and the county coroner. 

The coroner received the advisory at 1:39 p.m. Meanwhile, CHP officers started taking measurements at the scene by 1:31 p.m., and officials anticipated reopening one lane within 15 minutes.

The crash caused significant traffic backups. Southbound drivers experienced delays stretching to the 215/15 interchange, while northbound traffic slowed down as far as the 210 Freeway.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the motorcyclist, and the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing. No additional details are available at this time.
