Two Killed in Four-Vehicle Crash on Highway 361 Near Port Aransas

Corpus Christi, TX (August 18, 2026) — Two people died, and two others suffered injuries Friday afternoon in a four-vehicle collision on Highway 361 near Port Aransas.

Corpus Christi police said the crash happened around 3:40 p.m. near Fire Station 16, north of Beach Access Road 3. Investigators determined that one driver rear-ended another vehicle, triggering a chain reaction involving two additional vehicles.

The impact killed two people who were traveling in a vehicle that another driver struck from behind. Two other crash victims went to a local hospital, although authorities had not released their conditions.

Police closed Highway 361 in both directions for about three hours while investigators examined the scene. The crash caused significant traffic delays in the area.

The collision marked the second fatal crash along the same stretch of Highway 361 within four days. Four people have died in crashes on the highway since Monday, increasing calls for safety improvements.
