Police Investigate Rollover Crash near Santa Monica Boulevard in West Los Angeles

WEST LOS ANGELES, CA (August 13, 2026)— A multi-vehicle rollover crash near Santa Monica Boulevard shut down the northbound lanes of the San Diego (405) Freeway during Thursday morning’s commute, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at approximately 7:25 a.m. near Santa Monica Boulevard.

CHP officers said two vehicles ended up on their sides following the collision. Emergency responders freed four people from one of the overturned vehicles.

Paramedics evaluated a total of five people at the scene. All five declined transportation to a hospital, and authorities reported no serious injuries.

The collision and emergency response forced officials to close all northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway for about 35 minutes. Three lanes reopened at approximately 8 a.m.

By that time, northbound traffic had backed up as far as the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway, creating significant delays for morning commuters.

Crews continued working to clear the damaged vehicles and reopen the remaining lanes. According to the CHP, all northbound lanes reopened at approximately 9:15 a.m.

Authorities did not immediately provide additional information about what caused the crash or how many vehicles were involved overall.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

Hurt in a Los Angeles Freeway Crash? Sweet Lawyers Can Help You Understand Your Options After a Multi-Vehicle Accident

A rollover crash on a busy freeway can be frightening even when those involved initially appear to have avoided serious injuries.

We are relieved that the five people evaluated after this collision on the 405 Freeway reportedly declined hospital transportation, and we hope everyone involved continues to recover without complications.

After a motor vehicle crash, some injuries may not be immediately obvious. Adrenaline and shock can temporarily mask symptoms such as neck pain, back discomfort, headaches, dizziness, or other problems.

For that reason, people involved in a significant collision may choose to monitor their condition carefully and seek appropriate medical attention if symptoms develop or worsen.

At Sweet Lawyers, we understand that even a crash without an immediate hospitalization can create lasting disruption.

Drivers and passengers may face vehicle repairs, missed work, medical evaluations, insurance communications, rental-car expenses, and uncertainty about who may be responsible for the collision.

Multi-vehicle crashes can also involve complicated questions about how the sequence of impacts occurred.

Investigators may review vehicle damage, photographs, witness statements, traffic-camera footage, roadway conditions, police reports, and other available evidence to better understand what happened.

Sweet Lawyers works with people affected by car accidents, freeway collisions, and rollover crashes with compassion and careful attention to their individual circumstances.

Our team recognizes that every accident is different and that injured people deserve clear information about the claims process without assumptions about liability or potential outcomes.
